Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English Literature. Mitchell started as an TV reporter and radio reporter at the time in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) which was based within Washington DC. She then became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. In 1981 she began to report on the White House. In 1988 she was appointed the top journalist for Congress. Then she was named chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent at NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was the former chairman for Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for her outstanding performance in the field of journalism. In 2004 it was the year that Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on in the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She covered a myriad of interesting stories such as weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively with President Reagan to meet alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
